Generally when overhauling a gebarox one would replace all the bearings as a given. However, in a gebarox overhaul the bearings are generally the least expensive of the parts that generally have to be replaced. The cost of replacing any gear or shaft inside the box will far exceed the cost of the bearings. To make an informed decision on a job like this one needs a bit more info.a. Was the car jumping out of gear. If so then you will be replacing more than bearingsb. Was the car having difficulty going into gear (i.e. grinding/grating of gears). If yes, synchros gone and will have to be replaced. May have also caused damage to gears.c. The gebarox just noisy, but otherwise seemed to operate OK. Then this is a straight forward bearing job.If it was a or b above then I would suggest looking for a good second hand box (preferably out of a low mileage car).If it is c then I would suggest replace the bearings. The risk with a second hand box (unless you can get some guarantee with it, is that it could suffer from exactly the same problems as you are experiencing with your existing box.
